PROJECT 1

INTRODUCTION

The first assignment for this module, we need to work in teams of six to seven. The assignment will be divided into two parts, 1A & 1B. The tasks will only be revealed in class and we need to present our works in class in the form of pin ups. Task 1A is to draw the given object within the tutorial period to train our drawing ability through observation. Task 1B will be on translating the instructions given into understandable drawings without using any words. My groupmates are Sze Ting, Bee Yee, Will, Marina, Farisha and Kimberly.

THE PROCESS - TASK 1A

We have to produce 6 drawings of the vegetables includes, top view, elevation, bottom view, 2 sections and a perspective on an A2 butter paper. Through observation, we have to sketch and render it using different pencils with different darkness and hardness. The drawings have to be in the scale of 1:1. Hence, we divided the job equally.

The first task is a mystery as we did not know the object we are given before the day. We are quite excited and start guessing around on what we will be given. Most of us guess the object as fruits as it is the cheapest and easiest things that enable us to draw the sectional elevation easily. However, we did not get it right as it turn out to be vegetables.

Some of us were in charged of taking the measurements of the bell pepper while some help to render it. I helped to draw the outline for them to render and shade it.

Overall, I am quite satisfied with the outcome of our group work but hope to improve more by increasing the range of pencil values. It could be more darker to create more contrast effect.

Drawing a bell pepper was not easy as we think as there were a lot of seeds in the middle of it which took us some time there.

It was a fun process as we need to communicate well with others in order to make sure we can finish it on time. Our tutors, Ms Iffa and Ms Ann gave us useful tips while we were doing our assignments.

THE ARTWORK

This task requires us to have good communication with our group mates in order to work together and the work can be carried out smoothly. We have to know well on friend's strengths and weaknesses and assign them with the respective task.

This task also reminded us on the important of solid foundation in drawing as sketching still life is the best methods for us to build up our drawing skills.

The relationships between drawing and our real life is unique and we should have sharp observation on the characteristics of each type of object not only plants but built environment also.

THE PROCESS - TASK 1B

This is an interesting task for me as we have no idea what we have to do until on that day itself. This assignment requires us to draw the steps of making an object through diagrams only and the instructions were two-pages long. We had to finish it during our tutorial session. We had to draw them on one to two A2 butter paper only.

We divided our tasks accordingly such as some of us summarize the instructions on first page and accordingly. Next, we start to draw out the points we have discuss. I was responsible to draw the outline using pencils first while my other group mates will pen them out.

Ms Iffa was listening to our group presentation.

Our tutor Ms Iffa and Ms Ann gave us some clues on how to present our ideas and they were not hesitate to answer our questions and gave us necessary guidance throughout the assignment. This was a more challenging task for us compared to previous task as this requires us to think more critically and effectively.

THE ARTWORK

We as a group had to think critically and analyze the problems which was how to make a dress by using diagrams only without words. As its instructions is two pages long, we had to summarize it into diagrams only, it really challenged our critical thinking. I learnt to look more broadly by exposing myself to more knowledge through reading and observation in daily life.

The communication skills between group members helped to obtain more ideas especially during the brainstorming session. It is best to gather everyone's ideas before we decide on an effective solution.'

Drawing is all around us in our daily life such as the Ikea drawing which teach us how to build up the furniture through simple and understandable diagram. Hence, knowledge is around us and we have to be more sensitive to surrounding and learn from different methods of presenting ideas.
